Marseille manager Lucien Favre has confirmed that he will be staying at the club for the foreseeable future and is determined to challenge for the Ligue 1 title this season. In an interview with RMC Sport, Favre said: "I am very happy to be back at Marseille. I have always been part of this club, so it's nice to be able to return here after my time at Monaco." Favre was appointed as Marseille's head coach in December 2019 following the departure of former boss Rudi Garcia. The Swiss coach has since overseen some impressive results for the club, including a run to the quarter-finals of the Europa League last season. However, the 56-year-old admits that there is still work to be done if Marseille are to compete for the top spot in Ligue 1. "We have to improve our performance on the pitch," Favre told RMC Sport. "We must play better football and we must win more games than we lost last year. We must also try to score more goals than we conceded." Despite the challenges ahead, Favre is confident that his team can achieve their goals. He added: "I believe in my players and I think they are capable of achieving what we want to do this season. We have a good squad and we need to put in the hard work to succeed." With the transfer window now closed, Marseille will look to continue building on their current form under Favre's leadership. The club's fans will hope that their manager's experience and tactical acumen can help them secure a place among the top teams in Ligue 1 next season. |
